Classic Reuben Sandwich: A Perfect Lunchtime Delight
Ingredients
- 8 slices of rye bread
- 1 pound of corned beef, thinly sliced
- 8 slices of Swiss cheese
- 1 cup of sauerkraut, drained
- 1/2 cup of Thousand Island dressing (or Russian dressing)
- 4 tablespoons of butter, softened
Instructions
1. Prepare the Ingredients:
Lay out the slices of rye bread. Spread about 1 tablespoon of Thousand Island dressing on one side of each piece.
2. Layer the Sandwich:
On half of the dressed slices, add a slice of Swiss cheese. Follow with an even layer of sauerkraut (about 1/4 cup per sandwich), then a generous portion of corned beef. Top the beef with another slice of Swiss cheese.
3. Assemble the Sandwich:
Place the remaining bread slices on top of each assembled sandwich, dressing-side down, to form a sandwich.
4. Prepare the Pan:
Heat a large skillet over medium heat.
5. Butter the Sandwiches:
Spread softened butter over the top of each sandwich.
6. Cook the Sandwich:
Place the sandwiches, butter-side down, in the preheated skillet. Cook until the bottom slices are golden brown, about 3-4 minutes. While cooking, spread butter on the tops of the sandwiches.
7. Flip and Finish Cooking:
Carefully flip each sandwich and cook the other side until golden brown and the cheese has melted, another 3-4 minutes.
8. Serve:
Remove the sandwiches from the skillet. Let them cool for a minute or two before slicing each sandwich in half and serving warm.
